Emmanuel Macron, Savior?

It has become quite the norm, in the presidency of Francois Hollande for government to rise and fall in short periods. In the last remaniement, the more outspoken personalities, Arnaud Montebourg, Benoit Amont, Aurelie Fillipeti, opposed to the centrist shift of the President and his Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, were all fired. The new government ministers represented the full embrace by Hollande of the Social-Democrat political mind and his reject of the true left, the ideal to his party, the PS (the Socialist Party). No one represents that change more than the new minister of the economy and industrial renewal, Emmanuel Macron.

The Ferguson Essays Part I: The Prosecution and Race

Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, the linking of the two incidents was bound to happen. For many people, many of them African-Americans, it was inevitable. The events that happened on August 9th 2014, were going to be examined through the lens of Trayvon Martin's murder by George Zimmerman. How the prosecution in setting the entire grand jury process and witnesses could ignore that is shocking and puzzling.

The Ferguson Essays

I have restrained from writing anything concerning Ferguson in the immediate aftermath of the decision not to indict Darren Wilson for the death of Michael Brown Jr. I have felt that my writing would be marred by emotions and would accomplish nothing. But this is an important event, it requires clarity of mind and lucidity to write about.

I wish this had been handled better buy the prosecution, the government and the police so that the ugliness that happen on Tuesday didn't overshadow all the important questions that deserved to be asked and pondered upon in the aftermath of this tragedy. I will examine some of those questions in the upcoming three or four essays, so bear with me and be patient.

Most importantly, I offer my sincere condolences to the Brown family, who has behaved with extreme grace and dignity and has risen above the anger and the hatred that this situation has brought upon many people. I hope that they continue to be strong and that their efforts to bring forth change from the death of their son are fruitful.

Midterm Election 2014, Two Weeks Later.

How?

How, would summarize my thoughts after seeing the results and the terrible performance by the democrats. Yes, these were midterms during an incumbent President's last half of his second term. The congressional map has been gerrymandered by republicans for at least the next 10 years, but how does one explain the loss of the Senate and the loss of even more gubernatorial seats and state legislatures?

Take sometime today to tell someone that you know, who has served in any of the armed forces, thank you. They have given a lot, sacrified themselves to preserve the United States' way of life, our liberties and our freedoms. To any of my readers who has served in the armed forces, Thank you very much and Gob bless you! Happy Veteran's day.

Yes, I know I haven't written anything of substance recently, but life has been busy and school ain't no fun! But somethings are in the pipeline, be patient, my two readers!

Vote Today!

Today is Election day here in the good Ol' USA. People will be heading to the polls today to vote for their Governors, Senators and House Representatives. I know that the youth tend to disregard these election but they matter. Because unlike the Presidential election were swing state voters matter more, in the midterms all votes matter the same and they all count the same. So if you are young, head to the polls today and make your voice heard.

I encourage y'all (Texas life) to vote Donkey Blue! I may also resurect my blog to discuss what this election means for everyone, the rest of the President's term and excintigly the Presidential election of 2016, which starts today.

The Holder Legacy

Eric Holder, who has been the Attorney General since the beginning of the President's first term, has announced that he is retiring from office. With his departure, the last of the high profile members of the original Obama cabinet has left. He won't be leaving his office at the Department of Justice immediately, he will wait until a successor has been appointed and confirmed. His term has been historic, he, like the president is the first African American to occupy his prestigious office. During his term the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was repealed by the Supreme Court, effectively opening the path for marriage equality in the nation. His term also saw the deep polarization of the United States and the worsening of race relations. His term also saw the supreme court gut the Voting Rights Act, a matter than had been dear to his heart. His term also saw the Citizens Unit decision by the Supreme Court, gutting finance regulation laws and opening the door for the monsters that are the superPACs. It was not the most pleasant term for an Attorney General but it was a remarkable one and he will be remembered for a long time.

Ukraine

I am resurrecting my blog from death, life happens, because I, in my infinite vanity would never miss out a opportunity to say 'I told you so.' According to the Guardian, Russian troops have been interfering in Easter Ukraine, helping the dissidents against the new Ukrainian administration, led by oligarch Petro Poroshenko. Ukraine and Russia are supposed to enter this ceasefire that is completely on the terms of Vladimir Putin.

Manuel Valls and the Second Chance

Of course Francois Hollande nominated Manuel Valls to Matigon, there was no other choice for him, a man whom I consider rather bland, charisma-less and incapable of sticking to a decision. After dangling the glorious suggestion of a Martine Aubry prime ministership, Francois Hollande settled for the safest pick. A change in government was needed, and after the crushing defeat that was suffered by his PS in the municipal elections, which are always used as a confidence vote to the party in power, nominating Valls looks like a sensible choice.

China in France and the Coming Changing of The Guard

This week France received the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, to great pomp and circumstance for his first ever State visit in France. No expense was spared in welcoming the head of the second most powerful country and the fastest growing economy in the world. As usual there is always a little hypocrisy involved when the head of a western country receives a Chinese delegation, there were no mention of human rights etc. a stark contrast let's say if Hollande were to receive the President of Cameroon or any other impoverished nation, human rights would be at the forefront.

Dire Times for Ukraine

Guys (by that I mean my few sparse, readers, joking!) I am following this Ukraine situation like a hawk because it basically reads like the old timey maneuvers by the USSR against the United States and like many people, I am beginning to think that the cold war is back. I'm still travelling so these post will be shambolic and rather badly written and for that I am truly sorry.

Show of Power Needed in Ukraine (Updated)

The situation in Ukraine is fairly bad. After rejecting Putin puppet, Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine is threatened by Russia. Russian soldiers have taken over airports, parliament and government buildings in the ethnic Russian dominated Ukrainian border with Russia, Crimea. Like they did with Georgia when they invaded in the summer of 2008, they are distributing passports to anti government militia and will use the excuse of protecting their citizens for an invasion.

Thoughts on My Brother's Keeper.

Today with all the fanfare, splendor, pomp and pulpit of the presidency , President Barack Obama launched his new initiative, My Brother's keeper, designed to help young men of color and reduce the opportunity gap between them and their caucasian peers. I am traveling so this will be brief so pardon the hurriedness.

Yanukovych has fallen!

Late last year I wrote about the protests that were happening in Kiev's Maidan Square when they were in their infancy, I fully supported the will of the Ukrainian people in having their country's fortunes united with that of the European Union, given that being a client and puppet State to Russia had brought them nothing but misery and oligarchic corruption. Well, today it's my pleasure to announce that dictator-lite and Putin wannabe, Viktor Yanukovych has lost control of all state organs, the parliament has decided to vote him out, and the police and the interior ministry have now joined the people, it looks as if his tenure of terror is over.

Is Executive Action, the Solution to Second Term Blues?

The president will be delivering his fifth State of the Union address to Congress tomorrow, his people have given some hints that, to be honest, I found boring except for one. Floated by Jay Carney, of all people, is the idea that the presidency is getting ready to bypass congress and use executive orders to further his economic goals like income inequality and minimum wage. It's interesting because maybe it is telling us how the president plans to finish his last term in public office.
